Regiones de Coquimbo , Valparaíso , Metropolitana , Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins y del Maule , Chile

Mi segunda entrada en Chile fue muy diferente a la primera. Si la primera vez vi a un Chile muy poco poblado y explotado por la industria minera, esta vez, entrando por el Paso Agua Negra me encuentro en el centro de Chile, un poco más al norte de su capital Santiago. Cuando el clima es muy seco, el humano canaliza el agua de los ríos para transformar los valles en pequeños oasis verdes. El valle de Elqui es conocido por su producción de pisco chileno, así que aquí estoy bicicleando a través de los campos de uva hasta Vicuña.

La generosidad de mis anfitriones y la comodidad de su casa en Vicuña hacen de la ciudad un buen lugar para pasar un día de descanso. Planeo mi camino a Santiago. En lugar de tomar la carretera principal a lo largo de la costa, me quedo con una red de pequeños caminos rurales que me traen a la capital. Encontrar carreteras planas será muy raro; luego salir de los valles verdes para subir las colinas secas de la región de Coquimbo. Si las ciudades como Illapel y Ovalle con su aspecto industrial no me han atraído, los pueblos en el camino eran bastante encantadores. Continue reading →

Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Metropolitana, Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins and Maule regions, Chile

My second entrance in Chile was quite different than the first one. If the first time I saw a very sparsely populated Chile, exploited by the mining industry, this time, entering by the Agua Negra Pass, I find myself in Chile’s center, a little bit north of it’s capital, Santiago. If the climate is still very dry, the human canalized the water from the rivers to transform the valleys in green little oasis. The Elqui valley is renowned for it Chilean pisco production, so here I am cycling through grape fields until Vicuña.

The generosity of my hosts and the comfort of their house in Vicuña make the city as a very good place for a resting day. I plan my way to Santiago. Instead of taking the main road along the coast, I’ll take a network of small country roads that will bring me to the capital. Flat roads where quite rare, getting out of the green valleys to climb the dry hills of the Coquimbo region. If cities like Illapel and Ovalle with their industrial look haven’t attracted me, the villages on the way were quite charming. Continue reading →
