At the pass’ summit, on the border with Bolivia and Chile, I quickly take a picture. A cold rain was on me most of the time while going up and an other shower was threatening me in the distance. I have to go down for about 10 kilometers before getting to the customs, half of the distance passing a long line of trucks waiting their turn to go through the strict Chilean control (for about 12 hours, of what I’ve been told later).

Modern buildings, signalization telling me where to go, I make my passport stamped. When I say to the custom officer that I take the small dirt road following the Bolivian border, which is starting at the custom station, I deserve a hybrid look saying Continue reading →

Région Arica y Parinacota, Chili

Au sommet du col, à la frontière boliviano-chilienne, je me prends en cliché rapidement. Une pluie froide s’est abattue pour une bonne partie de la montée, et une autre averse me menace au loin. Je dois descendre une dizaine de kilomètres avant d’arriver à la douane, la moitié de la distance en dépassant une file de camions boliviens en attente pour passer les contrôles douaniers stricts des Chiliens (pour au environ 12 heures, de ce qu’on m’a dit plus tard).

Édifices modernes, signalisations me disant où je dois aller, je fais tamponner mon passeport. Quand je dis au douanier que je prends la petite route de terre qui suit la frontière bolivienne et qui commence au poste frontalier, je mérite un regard hybride de Continue reading →
