We weren’t expecting fighting such strong winds. The breeze from the Carabeen stuck up in a funnel created by the mountains and is then strongly push toward the Pacific. We were on its way, in January moreover, a period where it is at its strongest, from what we’ve been told.

One day somebody thought that it might be a good idea to use this wind. The Mexican State power company put the project in the hands of Iberdrola, a Spanish company, which created the wind propellers park Venta I in 1994, then Venta II and eventually Venta III.

We can feel at the end of my video Due South the power of the isthmus’ wind and the impressive number of wind propellers. We can understand and feel pertinent the fact of developing a clean energy for the wellness of the country.

But sustainable development doesn’t always rhyme with local development. The Asamblea de Pueblos Indígenas del Istmo en Defensa de la Tierra y el Territorio (Assembly of Isthmus Indigenous People Defending Earth and Territory) are fighting not against a wind propellers project but against a wind propellers project controlled by foreign hands. According to them, what happened and what’s to come don’t respect local specificity of the territory and don’t considerate the local population voice.
